Federico Mondelci ist seit mehr als drei Jahrzehnten eine der charismatischsten Stimmen des Saxophons in der internationalen Musikszene. Geboren in der italienischen Region Marken (Marche), begann er seine Ausbildung am Conservatorio Rossini in Pesaro und setzte sie in Bordeaux bei Jean-Marie Londeix fort, wo er die renommierte „Medaille d’Or“ erhielt.
Als Solist trat er mit führenden Orchestern wie der Filarmonica della Scala unter Seiji Ozawa, den Moskauer Solisten mit Yuri Bashmet, der Philharmonie St. Petersburg, der BBC Philharmonic und vielen weiteren Klangkörpern in Europa, den USA, Australien und Neuseeland auf.
Sein Markenzeichen ist die Verbindung von klassischer Tradition mit zeitgenössischer Musik. Federico Mondelci arbeitet seit Jahren mit Komponisten wie Luigi Nono, Giya Kancheli, Philip Glass, Franco Donatoni, Salvatore Sciarrino, Giacinto Scelsi, Graham Fitkin und Nicola Piovani zusammen. Viele Werke wurden eigens für ihn geschrieben und von ihm uraufgeführt. Zahlreiche preisgekrönte Aufnahmen dokumentieren dieses Schaffen, darunter die Aufnahme von Scelsis Musik, die mit dem „Diapason d’Or“ ausgezeichnet wurde.
Neben seiner solistischen Tätigkeit ist Mondelci ein gefragter Dirigent. Er arbeitete mit international renommierten Solistinnen und Solisten wie Ilya Grubert, Michael Nyman, Kathryn Stott, Pavel Vernikov, Nelson Goerner, Natalia Gutman und Luisa Castellani. Mit dem 1982 gegründeten Italian Saxophone Quartet und der 1995 ins Leben gerufenen Italian Saxophone Orchestra begeistert er bis heute ein weltweites Publikum.
Für seine Verdienste um die Musik wurde er 2017 als „Marchigiano dell’Anno“ geehrt. Unvergessen ist sein Auftritt 2014 als Solist und Dirigent mit der Philharmonie St. Petersburg anlässlich des 200. Geburtstags von Adolphe Sax – ein Erfolg, der ihn 2024 erneut auf diese berühmte Bühne führte.

For more than three decades, Federico Mondelci has been one of the most charismatic voices of the saxophone on the international music scene.
